Rey married Josefina Micabalo-Rellon on April 28, 1973, at St. Jude Parish in Malvar, Davao City. At the time of their marriage, Rey was 22 years old and Josefina was 21. After two years their union was soon blessed with four children: Bobby, Ryan, Ren, and Ria.
A dedicated and hardworking individual, Rey demonstrated remarkable perseverance in pursuing his education. He worked as a janitor while attending college, where he completed a General Radio Communication Operator (GRCO) certification and Bachelor of Science majoring in Electrical Engineering (BSE).
During his tenure at DXUM as a Radio Technician, Rey further exemplified his strong work ethic by taking on additional responsibilities beyond his primary job. For nearly two decades, he supplemented his income by repairing household appliances, going door-to-door after work hours. His commitment to providing for his family and his determination to succeed reflect a life marked by resilience, discipline, and unwavering dedication.
In July 1988 UMBN launched its first FM Station 92.3 WTFM where Rey was hired as Chief Radio Technician.
Fun Fact: UMBN co-workers calls him "Asion Tusok" He was known to be expert in repairing / tusok electrical stuff.
